On May 24, 2018 Mr. Shen Xiaokai, the Economic and Commercial Counsellor of The Embassy of People's Republic of China in Latvia met with Riga Technical University's rector Leonids Ribickis. Meeting was also attended by University’s deputy rector Igors Tipans, dean of the Faculty of Electronics and Telecommunications Jurgis Porins and Second secretary (economic) of Chinese Embassy Mr. Wang Chengguang.
During the meeting Mr. Shen Xiaokai emphasized that frequent exchange of high-level visits by RTU and its Chinese counterparts indicate close relationships between RTU and China. He introduced Chinese government seminar program and invited 20 participants from RTU to participate in “2018 Seminar on Capacity building of electronics and communications technology for Latvia”. Chinese side pays high attention to seminar organization and this year's seminar for RTU students and teachers is a good beginning for fruitful cooperation of both sides.
Dr. Leonids Ribickis told that Riga Technical University was established in 1862 and is the oldest higher education institution in Latvia. He assured that University is trying to develop cooperation with different Chinese institutions and universities. In recent years, RTU has established cooperation with Beijing International Studies University, North China Institute of Science And Technology, Qingdao University of Science and Technology, Shandong University of Technology and others.
After the meeting Mr. Shen Xiaokai visited RTU campus to meet seminar participants. He extended a warm welcome to all participants and delivered a presentation on application process as well as the objectives of the seminar. At the end students raised many questions as they were eager to learn more about China, its culture and the seminar. Counsellor Shen answered all questions and shared his experience and insights with the participants.
