Ambassador of Latvia to China visited Harbin

On October 16 and 17, the Ambassador of Latvia to China, H.E. Maija Manika, paid a visit to the city of Harbin in northern China, where she met with Mayor Sun Zhe and other Chinese officials. During the visit, the Ambassador participated in the opening of the Harbin branch of the Chinese partner of the Riga Varnish and Paint Factory (RILAK), as well as visited the city center of Harbin, where RILAK paints are used to renovate the facades of historic buildings.

RILAK's name became known in China back in 2018, when the company's products were used in the construction of the new Beijing Daxing Airport. In November 2019, the company participated in the Shanghai International Import Expo, during which it signed a cooperation agreement with Harbin City Municipality, which has resulted in growing export volumes to China.

During the meeting with the Mayor of Harbin, Sun Zhe, the Ambassador discussed further co-operation between Latvia and Harbin in the fields of economy, culture and sports. The parties agreed to develop further cooperation in the development of winter sports, especially ice hockey, as well as in the fields of culture and international exhibitions. Representatives of Latvia have successfully participated in the Harbin Ice and Snow Festival for several years, and have plans to continue this cooperation in the future.
